Today is my Mom's birthday, she would be turning 68. She passed away 23 years ago when I was 7. I keep her in the back of my head always, and often think of her. I sometimes wonder how all of her 8 childrens lives would have been so different had she been around to raise us. I can't imagine the pain in her heart when she was sick, knowing that she had all these children that she couldn't hang around to take care of. I think our Mom watches over us, and although sometimes she probably shakes her head in dis-belief, she loves us and is proud of all of us.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month. I have researched it this morning a bit and I found an awesome
WEBSITE! The Susan Komen foundation is built on a promise a woman named Nancy made to her sister Suzi in one of their last conversations. Anyways, the website and the story are both awesome. Check it out if you have time!

Nice tribute to Mom! What a great picture of her. I have a good one I will send you. Happy Birthday Mom!
For some reason I had it in my head that you were 12. Wow. You look so much like her! Really thoughtful, Trish. Beautiful post.

Every October/November I remember mom in the things that I see: the leaves changing colors, the feeling of change in the weather, the harvest and it's colors of bright orange and green -- because all that was happening during the time when she had to go. She loved to laugh and would be like a young girl in her most happy times. When she was upset you'd hear it for sure. She put her children first before herself often. I'm her age when she died and it reminds me to make the most of life and appreciate it's little things... like spending time with my daughters and giving them similar memories of just going out together and talking. Mom would take me to Pizza Hut just by myself and her and I would hear that old Eagles song "Take it too the limit... one more time" and she would talk about life and her concerns and stuff... it made me feel important to her. That's what I need to give to my children. Thank you mom!
I also love how mom could fix anything. She wouldn't be intimidated when the washing machine broke. She flipped it over, took it apart, found the broken part and replace it. I do the same thing!
